Chunks missing from cam bearings?
So this engine has about 3k miles on it over the course of 10 years. Mostly street time with some short pulls. Engine never gave any signs of issues but recently started smoking really bad. So I pulled it out and send it to a very reputable engine builder. After discussion, we determined I would only reuse a couple components and I brought all the other components back to my house. After getting the block on a stand, I was shocked to see the cam bearings! Chunks missing from the front 2. The rest have some wipe but nothing detrimental. I even found chunks of metal (believe from the bearings) in the oil pick up and after a 2nd look, on the cam itself. All of the cam shaft journals seem to be fine. I am very confused. I have never seen this before. Super confused.

"421ci 15:1 Solid Roller".
High spring pressures, infrequent starts resulting in a "dry start" condition?
Bearings mis-aligned at install?
@15:1.. Race gas? Possible detonation?
Correct lash maintained?

Not sure what detonation would impact cam bearings but lash was checked every year. C12 was used, I was thinking dry starts myself as I can't think of anything else. The oil was changed every time the car was driven.
