Hit curb on right side, bent panhard bar bracket
It looks like its been a few years since anyone asked about this.....
I cant find any info on it, but I'm wondering if there is a way to fix the bracket. Whether its to cut it off and weld on a new fab'ed one, or bend it back into place as close as possible, ooooooorrrr.........
I used a 2 ton come-along to pull the bracket back out, but its not perfect. Left tire almost sticks out and right tire is inside the fender. Its probably close to an inch or more of lopsidedness. I can try to do it again because I didnt have the car anchored very well and when I got a lot of tension on the winch, the whole car would start being pulled also. I had the right rear of the car off the ground, right tire was off, and I had a strap going from the cars left wheel rim (tire on the ground) to my Jeep cherokee parked right next to it, but it wasnt a perfect anchor..... still had slop. I feel like a slide hammer isnt near strong enough, and I dont want to use a torch and heat things up to bend easier.
If heat is not a bad idea, are there any specific tools or techniques I should use to bend the hot metal? Pry bars, hammers, vice-grips, etc...??
Or should I just cut it off and have a pro weld on a new one made from thicker material and brace it better as well? I could do it if I used the same thickness material, but I'm not sure if I can weld thick metal to thin metal very well without making holes. Unless its just barely thicker. I was thinking like 3/16" thick plate to make a new bracket. Sounds like overkill though......
Thoughts?
Thanks everyone.
