Default What sauce is everyone using on their factory T56

Two Questions -

1) My 6 Puck **** the bed, so in goes a Monster S Twin. Should I use a Pilot Bearing (supplied by Monster) or a Orlite Pilot Bushing?

2) I was going to do new fluid while I was at it, so I'm trying to get an idea on what to use. The Bird is a 98, but it had an A4 to T56 swap, so other than the obvious, I'm not sure if it's a 98 or a 99+, so I don't know if it has paper or carbon synchros; is there a way to tell?

What would you guys suggest?

Dex III
Royal Purple SynchroMax

Schaeffer's 204SAT
Amsoil SYNTH ATF
Pennzoil Syncromesh
Tremec 75W85
Redline D4

I've had bushings and bearings. Bushing had more noise at idle vs bearing. I put bearings back in, mainly because they usually come with clutch kits and I've never had any fail.

For all T56 guys at Tick recommend:
Three quarts of Schaffers All Trans Supreme ATF (
Amazon Amazon
)
One quart Schaeffer's Supreme Gear 75w-90 (
Amazon Amazon
)

The only reason I can hear my radio ove my exhaust, is because it's over 4000W, so between the two, I doubt I'd hear the bearing 🤣

Is that for paper or carbon synchros? I need to figure what year my T56 is, so I know what kind of synchros I have.

Thanks for the info, man 👍

I've been using 2 quarts of regular Dex3 and 2 quarts of synthetic Dex3. Haven't had an issue and shifts fairly smooth for a T56. I think my 2000 has paper synchros.

Oh wow, 2000, that late in the game; I figured 99+ would have gotten the CF synchros.

Why do you mix the two? I thought that the synthetic destroys the paper synchros.

Based on a google search, I'm not sure the fbody ever got the carbon fiber syncros.

That's weird. Everyone talks about our T56 having them.

I used Pennzoil Synchromesh the last go-around, but I picked up some Redline Powersteering Fluid for this next change.

Cheap DEX 3, no special mixtures or different fluids are needed. I always ran the roller bearings and never had a problem with them but they were replaced quite often.

On my most recent build I switched to bronze oilite after doing some research and found instances where shaft damage occurred with roller bearing failure. If you choose to go the bushing route make sure it is non magnetic.

Don't get dad new socks or a grill brush this year.
