This rifle belongs to an acquaintance and I have the opportunity to trade an M1+cash for it. He got it in his fathers estate and has never fired it. I have no reason to believe that its "faked", I would just like more knowledgeable eyes on it before I spend the money.

Does anyone have a way to tell when in 1944 this was made by the serial? I know there is no way of knowing if this was issued in WW2 but knowing when it was made might allow for an educated guess.
