Default What are the best heads for a BBC?

BBC, 454.. if you need more information let me know!

What would be the best heads? A link would be great. Looking to make ~500hp with a solid H/C setup, but going to wait on the cam for a little while.

Unless you want to save weight, a set of regular oval port heads with a bit of bowl blending and a good valve job would do the trick without any issues. Probably be 550 HP with the right cam and intake.

BACK IN THE EARLY DAYS MOPARS(ELEPHENTS) WERE RULING THE STRIP! W/440,s 426 HEMIS &OTHER BB MOPARS! A CAT NAMED "GRUMPY JENKINS" TOOK A SICNASTY BUILT SBC IN A LITTLE VEGA AND STARTED KIKN *** & TAKIN NAMES
SO THE LITTLE SBC GOT DUBBED THE MOUSE! BECAUSE THE ONLY THING THAT COULD SCARE AN ELEPHENT WAS A MOUSE! SO WHATS A BIGGER VERSION OF A MOUSE(SBC)?

For your BBC stick to oval port heads under 300cc runners. On the cheap you can get a set of stock 781 oval ports and have them worked or for some more money you can get some Brodix oval ports. Also you don't need to go solid to make the numbers you want, stick to hydraulic. Check out engine masters, there are LOTS of BBC builds in there.

I would go hydraulic roller. But the heads we speak of are used, you will need to search for them, call a machine shop, check racingunk.com, things of that nature. Avoid the peanut port heads, they look like ovals but are way smaller.

If you're willing to step up to a roller it will save a lot headaches/worries versus a flat tappet when dealing with break-in, power, etc.

How much money do you want to spend?
World products merlin heads are the cheapest USA made head.
And get Howards direct lube lifters, screw roller stuff, unless you tell how much money you're looking to spend.

600 hp big block-
large oval port heads
11:1 SCR, 8:1 to 8.5:1 DCR on pump gas
a cam that will get you 8.1 DCR with 11:1 SCR
1 7/8 headers to 3" exhaust
850 cfm carb
Modifed stock HEI
170+ lph fuel delivery

How long it makes 600 hp depends on your selection of bottom end parts.

Well, i was suggesting the cheaper route, but if you want even more power in the area of 600, after market heads are your friend.

Like i said, unledd you want to save weight, the GM factory oval ports would get the job done, if you wouldnt mind spending money, the aftermarket can lighten up the engine with aluminum heads that are ready out of the box.

Aftermarket, Pro toplines go for 1200$ asslembled, Dart 1500$, World 1500$, that is all cast iron. Aluminum: Patriot 1500$, Brodix 2200$, Camfield 2200$, AFR 2200$, Dart 2200$.

Take you pick for the aftermarket, those are going prices. I have seen GM factory castings for 200$ to 800 $ on Ebay, craigs list and all those places.
