Default Sbc 383

With all of your guys great help i decided the 383 will fit me best, But with this leaves me one final question.
1) When i had the 350, i had about 415 horsepower with good rings, now puting more cubes down and a fresh build how much horsepower gain should i get from this? if any?

HP won't be as big of a difference as torque. You will build more of both HP & Torque but more noticeable w/ torque as you go w/ bigger cubes.

Your peal gains will not be as much as ACROSS the board will be significant, BUT, generally, if you gained a meager 1 HP per cube, you would have atleast 30 more HP. But, in the situation, of peak power, it is easy to get 1.5 HP per cube with the right parts, so that translates to 45 more HP and TQ also will varry, you will exchange some low end TQ most times for high end HP.

Torque is where it's at. Nothing like being thrown back into your seat everytime you goose it.

So why would you compound the problem with more TQ? A well thought out 355 would give you all of the power that you would need, but be easier to hook up through your current chassis. Later on when you install the 9", then all you would need to do is go with deeper gearing for the mechanical leverage. The mechanical leverage will make the truck faster anyway, b/c you have effectively given more rear wheel TQ to the tires. Just for fun play with this equation: engine TQ x gear ratio = TQ to the tire.

489 x 3.73 = 1823.97 ft lbs.----------550 x 3.73 = 2051.5 ft lbs.
489 x 4.10 = 2004.9 ft. lbs.----------550 x 4.10 = 2255 ft. lbs.
489 x 4.56 = 2229.84 ft. lbs.

As you can see a 355 with 4.10's has about the same TQ to the tires as a 383 with 3.73's. Just make sure that your engine makes good power over a longer rpm range. Then after playing at the track you can swap over to your highway gears for cruising.

I had alot of good luck with my Sloan Raing 383ci. With street driving in mind, my car made a solid 477rwhp 444rwtq through a TH400 and a 9in rear. On a small 150hp I made 633rwhp and 660rwtq.

Tubbing is on it's way maybe this season. But the rebuilt must come first. If it means i need to feather it a little off the line so first bits hard and just hit the bottle in second then i need to lol, The 9" and tub is coming deppends on funds in the summer.
With the 383 I'm looking between 415-450 HP plus my 150 shot so about another 100 on top of whatever. it weights 2850 with me in it. I'm going to take it off the drop blocks and put some traction bars under it and see if that will Work with me some.

A 383 makes way more torque due to the extra length in the stroke. Torque = acceleration not horsepower. It will still make power up high if built right but the torque will be almost instant down low which is very nice. Its easy to build a 500hp 520+ ft/lb of torque motor. Look at chevy high performance or super chevy one of the chevy magazines I cant remember they had the mighty mouse motor where they did a bunch of different combos and dynoed to see results. Great info there easy to build a good motor.
