Never been a fan of worn out camel dump heads, by the time you fix em up(if the shop does a good job and don't screw up your heads). You could have/almost bought a NEW set of heads. Why I like ebay generic aluminum heads, cheap and much better modern design over the ole dump heads. Not to mention by now the age of all factory camels, I'm sure rust in the water ports has weakened them up some.

FYI this thread was 2009

The double hump heads were the "go to" heads back in the day. The problem was most were from early 327's without bosses drilled and tapped for accessories. The early alternator and PS brackets were notorious for spitting belts. Things got re-designed in 1968 where the brackets were fastened to the heads.

The best early heads were the 292 "Turbo" (340292) heads. They were angle plug heads designed for the NASCAR teams. They didn't have a heat riser and had the smaller 64cc chambers. I bought a pair from NASCAR driver/owner D.K. Ulrich back in the 70's and they worked well on my 355 build.

No heat riser in the casting
