Default LS Vs BBC weight info

I just sold my BBC Iron block and have a 6.0 Iron block (LS). I went to pick them both up and guess what?

One did not seem any heavier then the next.

Yes the BBC aluminum heads weigh about twice as much and the LS1 heads but its not enough to worry about when you are getting a ton more CUI.

Yes the crank also weighs more, about twice as heavy or less. Aftermarket crank may not weigh as much.

Really I thik the only things that weigh a lot more is the heads and crank. Keep in mind this is a comparison to old BBC aluminum heads and a factory crank. The newer stuff may weigh less.

Even with aftermarket blocks Iron to Iron with aftermarket cranks I bet you are talking an extra 100 pounds.

Just thought I would share.

Yea, a iron 6.0 compared to a SBC feels out right horrible when you think of a small block chevy in general, there is simply more to the LS design than the older GEN I and II blocks. I am waiting to buy a big block, i have 1500$ but i decided to get a 12 bolt for the 89 rather than destroy the 10 bolt later then try to find a 12 bolt. It is ok though, it wont take too long i hope.

a bare 6.0/5.3/4.8 weighs in around 68lbs. heavier than a bare 5.7 ls1
a bare ls2 weighs in about 10 lbs. lighter than 5.7 ls1
i have no idea what a bare bbc weighs,
however i can carry a bare 6.0 and can chunk a bare ls1 and can pick up over my head for a few reps.

you did say brodix. you get what you pay for though. huge displacement and a quality block to begin with, and a whole lot less weight!
