What are you putting the 496 in? What type of heads, ovals or rectangle port? What type of budget? Have you thought about factory fuel injection? As stated earlier megasquirt in conjunction with factory fuel injection will work good with bigger injectors of course.
What generation of big block?

I plan on using it on my 454 pretty soon. it is not as bad as it seems. They even offer pre-built kits.

it was pretty easy to do. its downright easy. short of soldering and actually gathering all the parts, there is nothing to it.

btw, I have an intake setup I just took off, with 42lb injectors. let me know if you are interested in a great deal

i installed it on my engine and the throttle response vs a carb is like night and day.

as said above, a little big for a 496, but it will work, just not optimal. If I was doing a 496 I would use an Edelbrock Oval port head. They are inexpensive and can work well when ported.

I had a 496 in a 69 camaro. It had Pro1 310 heads and was 10.1 comp. with a solid roller 253in. 266ex on Factory GM fuel injection. I ran 93 octane from the pump. Car ran 10.53 1/4 with a less than optimal tune. Weight was 3415 with driver.
