General SBC question
By the time I was getting into the technical side of cars, I was learning on the LS motors. When my father passed away, I inherited many unfinished projects and parts. I have 3 engine blocks, a 283 and 2 350 blocks. I also had miscellaneous SBC heads. Now one set came off of the 283 (#3884520) and I have another set of 283/327 heads (#3795896). I also have 1 327/350 (#3932441) and a 327/350 (#3970126). I know the 327/350 heads are 1.94/1.5 76cc and the 283 heads are 1.72/1.5 60cc.
Now to what I am wondering. Since I am more familiar with LS motors and I am just learning Gen 1 SBC motors now, do I have anything to work with? The heads are all in original shape, it appears anyway. Can I build some good project motors out of what I have, or am I better off finding some other components? I know a lot of people are incorporating VORTECH heads and intakes onto Gen 1 blocks, but money is always an issue, and if I can build something good from what I have, I would like to.
My first thought would be would the 60cc heads be too much for a 350 block. I imagine I would have to do a valve job, but would dished slugs bring the CR down enough to be somewhat streetable?
I also have read that the 76cc heads are for low compression applications. Could that be something that I incorporate into a blower motor?
Any input would be appreciated.
