Default 350 Big block help!

my friend has a 1970 le mans but its a 4 speed automatic. He's looking into getting a manual transmission for it....what would be the best one other than a 4 speed out of a gto and how much would it roughly be?.

I think most of the 4 speeds out of gm cars from that era are interchangeable but you would need a buick olds pontiac bell housing for it.

Pontiac doesn't have a big block. All poncho motors are the same physical size except the I think the 301, which no one talks about anyway.

I haven't heard someone say 350 big block in years. Most people say 400 big block. Which isn't a big block either. Chevy or Pontiac.

Its a tall deck to be correct. 326-455 are tall decks while the 301 is a short deck. There kinda like 427/454 tall and short deck chevrolets. They use almost identicle components but different width intake manifolds.

Oldsmobiles are the same way. 307-350 are short deck and 403-455 are tall deck.

Pontiac, there is no small and big. They all share the same physical size and basic casting. There are different main journal sizes, but everything Pontiac offered between 301 and 455 was basically the same architecture.

Minus the deck heighth which changes the intake manifold width and some accessary brackets. I swapped a 77 catalina from a 301 to a 400 and found out the physical differences the hard way.
