Default Removing TPI runners

Hi im guna be installing some slp runners on my 91 trans am maybe this week, but looking at taking the old ones off it looks like i have to remove one of the driver side fuel injectors to get to one of the many bolts thats holding it on...so do i remove the injectors for the runners?...or are the runners bolt on bolt off? i have not yet done this

You should be able to get them out without removing the fuel rail.

What year car do you have? The older cars had the 9th injector that went thru the runner.

I wouldn't waste my time with runners on an old TPI setup. If the base plate and plenum is stock the runners do no good.

If you are going to go that far in replacing the runners I would just put a Holley StealthRam on it and be done. Took me about half a day to do it with everything I needed. Here is a pic of the car on the dyno.

You don't have to remove the fuel rail, in fact removing the fuel rail is next to impossible without removing the runners. A selection of long torx drivers and some extensions and universals will do the trick. You're probably trying to get at the front pass side bolt that foes in from underneath the plenum right???

You can port match the plenum to the runners. On the SLP runner you can cut the center section out of the plenum. You can also smooth out the bump inside the frt where the T body bolts and open them up for a 58mm TB. Pull the base plate and port match it . It will make a difference. Do you have Headers? They help.

Back in the day I had a 92 5.7. It had Arizona Speed and Marine runners, 58 TB, Edelbrock headers with cats, stock heads and cam 2800 stall with 3.42's. It ran 13.3's at 104. Completey stock 14.2's at 98-99mph. My 99 car stock 13.2's at 103.

The Lingenfelter Box with 13/4" long tubes and Alum. Vette heads was the set up in the early 90's. They would run mid 12's

The car did good. It ran 11.63@116. It has AFR heads and a TPIS zz409 cam in it with a 3000 stall. We swapped between the stock T/B and a Holley 58mm and saw no difference on the dyno and the track. Before the cam, with stock motor and the stall it ran 12.30-40's on the motor. It was a 14.0-14.2 runner back when it was all stock and ran a best of 13.92 on street tires.
