Replacing the engine in my 96 SS Camaro Hey guys,
So I blew my engine in my camaro, and I've recently purchased a replacement LT1 long block. I spent most of my tax return on the engine, so I can't afford to have a mechanic put it in for me, so I'm going to put it in myself. The only thing that worries me though, is that I have no experience working on cars, other than changing my oil. I've been in the oilfield for 4 years now, and I'm not bothered by hard work, I'm also pretty good with my hands. So my question is, is changing out my engine possible for someone like me, and what are the steps to getting the engine out? I'm limited to space, so I will be taking it out of the top. Please give me some advice!

Today I started working on my car after work. I was able to get the radiator and hoses off, the intake, and the ac unit. Now I'm at the water pump, and I can't figure out how to take it off. Any help?
Post this in the LT1 section just above this one and you'll get more views/replies. The best / easiest way is to drop the engine and transmission out the bottom by lifting the body off of the k-member. I think there is a step by step write up in the "stickies" in the LT1 section.

Well since the lt1 sits pretty far back in the car i'd pull the engine and tranny together, It's will be much easier and faster since you wont have to struggle and go crazy trying to get to the bellhousing bolts. Swapping the engine is pretty straightforward. You should have any trouble. If you're worried about forgetting where stuff goes just use pieces of painters tape to label stuff and take pictures as you go Take your time and it will be fine.
