8.1 propane to gas Found a katolight generator with a 8.1. It was in a fire but the motor was not damaged. It has 300 hours on it. Also runs on propane right now. Plans are to take the motor and put it in my 97 1500 chevy. Questions,, what needs to be done to run on gas? I plan on putting a carb and scrapping the efi setup. Can a distributor be put on this motor or do i have to run an ignition module? Looking to make some good horsepower without breaking the bank. Couldnt pass this motor up for the price. Not worried about fuel mileage. Looking to smoke some tires and rattle some pavement. Any help, suggestions, info is much appreciated.

Looks to accept a distributor but, from looking at those pics, I'm not sure how well that intake will flow. It looks to have some pretty sharp turns.

there's no provision for a distributor, the 8.1L has a crank and cam reluctor and in the trucks uses a crank and cam sensor with the pcm, and it has individual coil per plug on the valve covers like the LS1. For a 1997 1500 truck if it had an LS motor and PCM I imagine you could reprogram the pcm to run the 8.1L motor provided you got all the oem parts like intake manifold, fuel injectors, MAF, and so on. however, I've heard the 8.1L was used a lot if not more in industrial applications, so I don't know if the engine internals changed at all like the motor you got from the generator has no crank or cam reluctor because it was meant to probably run at a constant 3600 rpm and there was no need for a fancy ignition setup either.
