LS1 swap or 355/383 SBC carbed if non-turbo. For turbo go 5.3 and don't look back.

While it can be done, sticking a turbo on a motor with a carb is not a great idea - no way to tune it perfectly across all conditions like you can with FI.

I would suggest going with a larger SBC (383, 396, 406) to pick up TQ all across the rev range you seek.

What's your current motor's cam specs? You might be able to save some money and use your current cam. A .700 lift cam is way too radical for the amount of money you can mess around with. 3k will get you about 350-400 HP safely if you go with the right combination. What you buy is subject to your application. Search around the forum, there are many threads on builds. However what you can do if you want an easy way out is buy a crate motor.

First off what is your goal, if you are only looking for 350-400 hp, (at the crank?) that can easily be done with the ole school small block, but not with those heads. A set of decent heads, even the vortec heads, cam, intake, and of course all bolt ons will easily get you your HP goals. Any reason you want a 700 lift cam? Have you ever built a performance motor before? because a 700 lift cam, 4500 stall does not equate to the HP numbers you are looking for..

No never built a motor before besides dirtbikes and atv (2 strokes). But the motors going in a street legl s10. Maybe 350-600hp. Between there? What kind of heads? Valve train? Carb? Intake? Headers? Cam? Stall? Will be drivin on streets on good days or to play around with.
