There are literally 5 million combinations of parts that'll let you hit 500 hp in a big block. Get a nice hydraulic roller cam, ported stock iron heads or ANY aftermarket aluminum heads. A single plan intake manifold, an an 850+ CFM carb. Pretty much any long tubes. Keep compression up to a minimum of 9.5:1. You'll hit 500 HP with your eyes closed.
If you live anywhere near southwestern Ohio, I'll sell you a 525 HP big block thats comes COMPLETE with everything, including MSD Box, for $2500.

9-1 454, forged pistons, hydraulic flat tappet Lunati VooDoo cam. Get some -049 or -781 cast iron oval ports and have them cut for 2.25/1.88 valves or 2.19/1.88 valves. RPM or RPM Air Gap intake...might check to see about hood clearance on your Camaro. If you don't have the crank and rods, it may be a wash to buy some versus buying a 496 rotating assembly. But, don't be afraid of a cast crank they are fine to upwards of 700 HP. Stock rods will live with good bolts, the thumb print 'truck' rods use the 3/8" bolts....they seem to be s strong as the dimple rods without 7/16" bolts.
Otherwise a 270 ish cam, will work brakes and steering, sounds like the old 350-360 HP 396 or LS5 454...
