305 timing mark question

305 timing mark question So the machine shop/ engine builder put the bottom end of my 305 together for me. Did a great job. My question is, he put cylinder one at top dead center, and the crank sprocket dot is at 12 o'clock & the camshaft sprocket is at 12 o'clock. Always thought that the crankshaft is suppose to be at 12 o'clock and the camshaft at 6 o'clock?

Barring some weird timing set, you're right. However, don't expect the timing marks to line up every time you rotate the engine 360 degrees. If you crank it around long enough, they should line back up.
