Y pipe problem
My 1972 Chevy C-20 pickup does not have the original engine. The installed engine code is V0314TFZ. The VIN code is C93317891. I believe it is a 1979 engine (350?) It has rams horn exhaust manifolds.
I would like to order a Y pipe for it, but I don't know which one to order. Or, can a shop make or modify a y pipe?

Chevy used the "TFZ" engine suffix for two different years, 1979 (C-30 & 3500 models) and 1982 (C-20 to 3500 models). Both were used on 350 engines with 4-bolt mains. The casting date at the rear of the engine next to the bellhousing flange will determine which year engine you have, although I believe you have the 1979 model engine. (see VIN below.) The engine assembly code is V for Flint, MI, March (03) 14th (14).
The partial VIN remains a mystery. (Plenty of website available to decipher an entire VIN code, but haven't found a reliable one for a truck engine VIN stamping yet.) Typically, the last six digits are for the sequential manufacturing serial number while the first three usually indicate division (C=Chevrolet), model year (9=1979), and the third letter I think means chassis style (but I'm not sure what "3" means).
Any competent exhaust shop should be able to fabricate a Y-pipe for you, or possibly you might find one in a scrap yard that deals with auto parts.
Hope this helps!
