2.5 iron duke
Hey every one. I am working on my YJ project and need a little advice from the good people of LS1tech. This pertains to a 89 2.5 converted to propane. The rig currently has 4.56 gears 35s with a upgraded AX5 trans and got propane kit installed with all fuel injected equipment deleted.
i know this is a out there project so let me know what you guys think. Any advice or assistance is welcome.
In low range I have a 4.1:1 low range so there is no issue with power there. However in my hi range it is what you would expect from a 120hp engine. I am strongly considering going to a remote turbo system with the charger mounted on the passanger side front of the motor. I see this as a cheap way to take advantage of the higher octane (around 105 octane) rating of the propane. I really would like to find a very small turbo that makes goood boost between 1500-3500 rpms.
Now before any one says just swap it. This is not a DD and only gets used maybe 2-3 times a month. I have also considered 5.3, 4.2, 4.0, SBC, and every other swap under the sun. Out of all swaps the only one that came close in my mind was the old 3.4 V6 out of the camaro (160hp/200tq at the crank) It would bolt to the AX5 and these motors are comon and cheap. Howerer I would need a older 2.8 donor as well so I could run a mechanical distributor and carb type manifold. Personally I think a turbo 2.5 could easily make those same numbers especially when. It limited to the stock computer or 87 octane fuel.

STI Turbo = S-10
Hi RX7, I make the DIS kit for the USPS LLV delivery trucks.
I manufacture MemCals for your ODB-I ECU AND have the software for engine calibration.
I make distributors for the S-10 (Iron Duke)
I have made Propane Electronic Injection with DIS for this engine.
I have the Fugi STI Turbo in stock (EJ-25) which is the one I fit for ther USPS test Alt Fuel Project.
MY CHOICE is the "Turboed" 2.5 with 130 Octane Propane fuel.

200+ hp you culd probably piece together a supercharger from a GTP later down the road if you find you need more.
Keep in mind, none if this is "simple" bolt in, turbo is a good bit of fabrication and trial being blow thru, a swap will be time consuming with electronics, fabbing mounts and an exhaust but you don't have a great starting point. Don't know if I would be married to the trans in this case IMO it limits you greatly in strength and engine choices.
