Default help with compression ratio

I was wondering is someone can explain the basics of compression ratios like why run low or high comprssion. ive started looking for pistons and came across wiseco pistons. does anyone have any info on these? if i were to go with the wiseco pistons it would be the flat top ones that have 10.0:1 comp ratio on a 67cc head. I will be running a 64cc head. i know the compression ratio will change but does anyone know to what?

the compression ration in lamens terms is how much the mixture is compacted. the more its compacted the more violent the explosion. now with flat tops and 64cc heads id say 10.2 ish, if that. with 58 itd prolly be 10.7-11:1

yep, sounds about right. Depends on the engine combo as well. A 350 small block with 2 valve relief pistons and a 64 cc head could be about 9.5-10:1 compression. Use a similar picton in a 383 motor and the compression is about 10.7-11:1 b/c of the length/stroke of the rod.

random top fuel dragster fact # 348735386: the air/fuel mixture, at the point of igntion, is compressed so much that it is at the point of becoming a solid
