solid mounts always transfer more vibration than poly or rubber, but they are stronger as well. It depends on what the car will be used for. I have solid mounts in my Nova, and I don't mind the vibration (not all that much). Polyurethane are much better than rubber, so if it's a mostly street car I'd go poly.

I'd use solid mounts if you want the best holding power, or you can use the polys along with a limit strap of some sort to control movement.

make sure your trans mount matches your engine mounts, poly with poly, solid with solid

not true. you don't want to run a solid trans mount with solid motor mounts, otherwise you're looking at a possible cracked transmission case. you still want a little give, and run a poly transmission mount if you go with either poly or sloid motor mounts.

a limit strap is used on the engine only. It is used on applications without solid mounts to keep the engine rotation to a minimum, and to keep the mounts from breaking. the transmission mount should need a limit strap. I'm running Moroso solid motor mounts and an energy suspension poly transmission mount on my Nova, and have had good luck with them.
