Default rebuilt 350

this is my first engine that i will be building and i have to decide between building a 383 and a 350 and have decided on the 350. i would like to make it pretty strong, strong enough to take a weiand supercharger but i dont think i will put it on there. the people i talk to say to put my money into the heads. i plan for this engine to go into a 62-67 nova. my questions are what kind of list should i make for myself to make that kind of engine? should i go with the stroker 383? should i just go with a standard engine rebuild kit? i dont know where to start so i'm looking for some help and direction. hopefully someone can help me and thanks in advance.

If you are going to go with a blower, I would build the 350. If you are going to go all motor, and maybe some nitrous here and there, I would build the 383, although it will be a little more costly, not including the blower that is. As for crank and rods, that really depends on how stout you want the motor to be, and how many rpm's you plan on turning. I've got a 350 bored .040 over in my Chevelle right now, and it makes about 450-500 horsepower, and I've only got about 800 bucks in it. It's a perfect street/strip combination for me. I got a good deal on some heads though, and I already had the block, crank, and rods. It has stock crank and pink rods, but I don't spin it over 6000 rpm's, and it's fine. I would definetely say get a good set of heads, and a good set of pistons. Do you want it to thump real hard, or do you want really good street drivability, or a mix of both? Let us know a little more on what you want, and we can try and put a good combination together for you.

well mine is definately going to be for the street i own a 2002 z28 6 spd so i dont want my rps to go any higher than that. i like that the peak power is higher in the rev range so i would like same kind of feel in the nova that i want to build. i want to have a real good amount of lope in it, but i want to have the ability to drive it on the road if i wanted to.

Cool. That's almost exactly what I wanted when building mine. I figured since it was a small block, and no torque monster like my big block engine, that I would select a cam that was good from mid to top end. Mine worked out perfect for the street, but I haven't got to drive it much because we are doing body work and paint right now, and I just finished the motor also, but I did get on it a few times, and it just blew off the tires, although they are crappy street tires, but it feels much more powerful than my 99' T/A, and I ran a 13.3 @ 109.5 in it, spinning pretty hard on street tires. This cam sounds very healthy, and hits fairly hard. I have a video of it, I will post it if I can figure out how. Here is my setup, hope this helps.

-350 block (.040 over) (4-bolt main)
-ported aluminum heads off of a vette (2.02 int. 1.60 exh. valves)
58cc combustion chamber --got them for 250.00

-Flat top pistons (11.3 to 1 with the 58cc head) --300.00
-stock crank and pink rods --already had
-moly rings --99.00
-Victor jr. Intake --70.00 from a local speed shop
-750 holley mechanical secondaries carb -- already had
-Herbert hydraulic cam RPM Range 2500-7000; Lift .510/.535;
Advertised Dur. 300/310 -- 110.00
-MSD 6al ignition -- already had

Transmission- TH350 with shift kit, and 3800 stall --traded some big block parts for the stall, and got the trans. for 100.00 and rebuilt it.

Rear End- 10 bolt posi w / 3.73's --in the car when purchased, just checked it out, and it was ok.
