Default 383 stroker

Im considering building up a 383. I have a 350 complete block, and the rotating assembly from a 400sbc. I did some google searches and couldnt find anything good in regards to help in the buildup of one of these. Was wondering if anyone here had any good how to pages or info regarding the building of one of these motors. Thanks in advance

that is a no no.a 400 crank has bigger mains and 1/8 th inch bigger bore.to make it a 383 you just bore it .030 over, use a 3.75" stroke with 350 mains and 5.7 or 6.0 rods and 4.03 " pistons with the right deck height. you can get a 383 rotating assembly reasonably priced.

To make a 383 you bore a 350 .030" then take the 400 crank have the mains cut down to a the 350's smaller size. Loose the 400's short rods and use a 5.7'' 350 rod get some 383 pistons of your choice and get it balanced. You will need to use the 400 flexplate.

it will wind up costing almost as much money to have the mains turned down as buying a new scat or eagle cast crank and you still have a used crank that may be cracked.speed o motive used to have rotating assemblys for $395.powerhouse has cheap rotating assemblys also.the rods in the aftermarket assemblys usually have refurbished rods with arp bolts allready installed.good luck whatever route you decide.

Yes I know all about what has to be done. I was just more looking for an exact step by step tutorial with precise clearances etc etc.

I previously had a built up 400 in which the block had cracked. So now I have the remainder of the 400 parts, plus I have a pulled complete 350sbc.

The crank from my 400 has already been ground .010 under and the oil holes chamfered. I know the crank is fine, and I also have arp rod bolts from that buildup aswell.

I didnt plan on spending hardly any money on this project, I as of yet dont even have anything to throw it in. I just wanted to build up a 383 out of the parts that I already have.
