Not everyone needs to run 10's either.. if its what you have go with it til you can afford to step up.

the 302 is a short stroke large bore engine. it will walk all over a 305 any day. the 305 is the exact opposite. its a large stroke small bore engine. its good for low revs and mild torque. the chevy 302 and chevy 305 are totally different engines. while they use the same outside demsions the bore/stroke combo makes them totally different.

305s are good motors, but they were handicapped from the factory, mostly due to the era they were built in.
my last motor in my truck was a lg4 305. it had a summit cam around a 268 in size. it ran 15.1's@90it was dead till 3k then it would pull to 6500. i wish i had a convertor and performer rpm intake on it, definatly would have run mid 14's

hey im in the same sinking boat, i just bought the s10 thats in my sig, have not really gone trough it but, i know its a 71' 307 and its a little diff i beleave its a short deck 327 with a small *** bore, not haveing a damn clue how many miles are on this 307 the truck hauls dude, i been in 400 horse turbo s2000, and the torque that headers a 4barrle and stock cam and low rise intake make is just insane, but dont get me wrong the moment i get the money to blow, a 350 is going in for sure, but i can see how 305, 307 cu in motors can be screamers, at least it feels that way.

That's a solid point! I like that..
I'm picking up a 305 truck today. Mind you, I have a 350 sitting in my garage that I'll probably bolt into it, the 305 is more than sufficient for daily use!
Check out Car Craft or Hot Rod, they both have articles talking about hopping up a 305.
They even have a station wagon that they put some money into and it goes pretty well!
