Oil level question, SBC
Yesterday I pulled my engine out to replace a leaking oil pan gasket.
To me, the marks on my oil dipstick look way too close to the crank counterweights. I've always run my engine at about the 1/2 quart low mark because of this. My question is, do you think I should run the oil even shallower to avoid windage / foaming problems?
FYI its a 388 SBC 3.75 inch stroke w/ 5.7 inch rods. No windage tray, Lokar dipstick and a moroso 7 qt. pan with Melling hi-volume pump.
In the second picture, the screwdriver is pointing to the full point on the dipstick.
Thanks, MK

i would think with the high volume pump that when the motor is running some of the oil is up at the top of the motor. so u have less oil then what is on the stick when the car is off ... again just a guess that poped into my head
