Destroking a BBC
I am purchasing a dragster for B Econo racing and i was wondering how many cubes you can destoke a 454ci down to. The class allows a maximum of 366ci. If i could get a 454ci under 366 i think it would be a bad *** B Econo engine. If this is not possible, how about a 396ci destoked under 366ci. If any knows how i can do this, i would appreciate the info. i need to know where to buy the parts from to do this. so any links or companys names would help.
Thanks

The closest i could come up with was a .060 over 327 with a 400/383 crank. That would be about 365. .040 over it would be 361. .030 over would be 360. OR, a .060 over 350 would be a 361. Ive tried every combo i could think of small block wise. I dont think youll get close enough with a big block. A sbc 400 with a 350 crank is a little less that 373. 400 with 327 crank is a 348. These seem to be your options, though im not an engine builder and there are probably many more people here with much more motor knowledge than I. I dont think big block and small block cranks are interchangeable, but i could be wrong. Check out these sites, it what i used:

You can destroke a 396 to that level. Call Brad Klein at 806-371-7288 and ask him how to do it. He is a pro stock and comp engine builder.

Thanks for the info.
I have talked to some people i know and for that class they think a small block is the way to go for the weight advantage. I think the 327 crank in the 400 is the way i am going to go. the class specifies OEM block and heads with a 750 cfm max carb. The big block may be too difficult to make it into this class. But maybe it would work.
