Big Chief BBC in a 4th gen??
Anyone done it? I know you can put a BBC in there, but we are talking a port that is raised 1.5" over stock, this would be on a 9.8 deck block.
Pics would be nice

Do you mean a Tall deck? As such a 10.2 block? Big Chief heads can be run on a 9.8 block or the 10.2. However the 10.2 is the most popular due to the larger cubic inches available. I have a Shafiroff 598 tall deck in one of my 69 Camaros. I kick around the idea of sliding it into my T/A. No problem as it has a BMR k-member with the no mount option. The biggest issue would be the headers. But this is old news as there are a few in here that are already running these .

What i'm asking is can you put a big chief headed motor in a 4th gen f-car, as the big chief head is physically much larger then a std type bbc head. With the shock tower you only have so much room to work with, I really would rather not have to cut the shock towers to make room for headers. A 9.8 deck motor might fit, but with big chief heads and a 10.2 block, I would think thats to wide. I also need to be able to change valve springs with the heads on the motor in the car.

yes it will fit. less you cut the less room you have to work on things and make room to make things easier on you, but yes the motor 10.2 with BC heads will fit without cutting the shock towers

It should clear, there is a guy here local that has a 502 stuck in a 96 lt1 car. He used a motor plate.
That car they hacked the cowl for some reason, probably for access to the distributor .

here's more info
here's what I've found so far from someone who's done it.
A motor plate or new motor mounts and a nice 4"+ cowl hood. firewall wont' have to be trimmed.
Thats a factory firewall, there is only slight trimming on the bottom drivers side firewall for header clearance. Just take a look at Jon Moss' 00 ZL1 572 CI Camaro . The only problem with the tight clearance is you have to drop the K member if you ever have distributor problems.

Those pictures that Got Me SOM post are of my car. I can change the distributor in mine without dropping the motor. I'll try and get some updated photo's up since this seems to be a big issue as to whether or not this can be done.
