383 Carb Size ?

383 Carb Size ? Ok, so I am kind of wondering something. I guess when it comes to cams as well, people think bigger is better. I know sometimes its not. Right now I have a 383stroker in a 72 Chevelle. I just bought it from a friend, and currently it has a 650 or 660cfm carb on it. I think he also said the car runs a little rich. Anyways he said I should probably get the 770cfm carb from Holley, also it comes w/a double pump that I need. Ive never owned or worked on a carb motor, so I am a little clueless here. I was @ the track last night chatting w/a cobra guy, and he said you might want to get a smaller carb than I have now. He said sometimes people think you need a larger carb or bigger is better. He referred to a friend of his that has experience and goes w/a smaller carb.
I want the most power ofcourse and whatever will make me faster. I have my friend saying go larger, and someone else says maybe smaller. What will best benefit me, or make me faster and have more power???

Depends on what you'll be using the car for mostly, and what the 383 has for internals/power.
I was running a 650 Holley double-pumper on my 383 and doing fine with it (11.40s at 116 mph) with minor re-jetting and a change in squirters.
A swap to a 750 HP Holley double-pumper picked me up a tenth, but most may not consider spending the $600 worthwhile, but I do b/c my car see racing plenty.
