need help with starter issue...
87 iroc, t-5. just replaced the 305 with a 406. he has the 305 (153 tooth) flywheel on the engine, everything is bolted in and ready to go - except for the starter. the 305 starter won't work, and a diagonal pattern starter for 153 tooth flywheel can't be found that will fit in the t-5 bellhousing.
where can we locate a starter with the diagonal bolt pattern that will work with a t-5 bellhousing and 153 tooth flywheel?
mags sell **** for the 168 tooth flywheel ALL DAY LONG, this 153 tooth sob is killing us. wtf?
The one for 153/168 tooth has a straight bolt pattern but two sets of straight holes. My Gen 1 vortec had three holes in the block so there was no problem switching from a slanted to a straight pattern. Some people say they have drilled and tapped the block so they can use straight bolt pattern sarters, but I have never tried it, or needed to.
My only complaint is "Why did I wait so long to switch to a gear driven stater"?
