big block and gears (read first) Aside from my t/a I have a 2wd blazer with a pretty nice mild big block, 20's, 150 shot, and a 400 tranny. the wieght kills me (4500 lb). anyways it had 3.73 and ran 13.8 13.9 @ 102 103 all day no nos, but the locker blew and messed the rear, so now i put a rear i had laying around with 3.07. here is the problem i like the free way a little more but it sucks real bad on the low end should i put the 3.73 back in???to help you vote the gas milage did not change.
big blocks love a mild gear ratio 3.42-4.10 depending on cam rpm range,2800-3500 stall max with the tq so high, down so low in the rpm band steep gears will just overwork the engine.the most gear i have ever had in my old BB cars were 4.88 but i had a powerglide,4500 stall,31"MT'son motor and 33" on the spray
