My friend has the 292 in his 377CID motor. He won't rev the motor past 5000 but it sounds very mean at idle.

I'm building a 383 stroker with vortec heads clearanced for high lift springs, rpm air gap intake, cast crank, forged rods & hyper pistons. Will be between 9.7 and 10 to 1 compression. I'm going to use a comp XE284H (240/246 .507/.510 110lsa), which was recommended to me by comp's cam help techs. Should be a torque monster with nice hp as well.....and it'll sound sick idling

Use a DCR calculator to figure your cam. Chosing a cam just by the .50 specs is a piecemeal approach. PianoProdigy's calculator is very good at giving an idea on what the cam will idle like, compare DCR's of different grinds. Search in the LS1 forum and you should find it very easily. Good DCR = Easy power and more of it!

As to your current choice I would go a tad bigger. I ran a 224/224 .465 114/109 in my previous 360ci boat engine and it was a baby at idle. Nice short chop but nothing major with -4 degrees overlap. With a car you could go quite a bit larger. Lunati's Voodoo line are some damn nice grinds for HFT cams. They chose valve events that close the intake quicker than most out there and that's the reason they drive so nice and make power.
