350 modification I have a 350 GM crate motor ( the bottom of the line 290hp) im putting together a set up and i wanna know what yall think.
1. Comp Cam Magnum 292
2. Dart platinum 2.05/1.60 heads
3 Edelbrock air gap intake
4. holley 750cfm dp
5. dynomax full length ceramic headers
6. Pete jackson gear Drive
7. Msd untimate HEI KIt 9 MSD 6AL
HP estimation?

I would recomend tossing the gear drive. All it really does is make a lot of noise and transfer harmonics. You could make more hp with an xtreme series grind than that old magnum grind.
If its the dish piston crate motor i'm thinking it is then torque down low is going to suffer a lot. I would use 64cc heads and a graphite coated steel shim gasket to try and boost compression at a minimum.

im not a real big fan of gear drives but their ok, what are the combustion cc's and intake runner cc's, my quess depending on what pistions are in the motor witch are prob dished cast pistions,prob around 9.0 comp, prob around 370-390 horse if you could bump the compression up closer to 10.5 -11.0 and make sure everything is timed good and tuned right you could be up in the 400's

thanks guys i got the gear drive for free so if its gay ill take it out and put in a chain. But the thing is i dont know what intake runner cc i need i dont want my heads to out flow my cam. The extreme comp cam.....which one would yall recommend for a street strip car. I do little street driving so....

My engine is in my sig and it runs like a champ. I would go with the XE294 if you plan on very little street driving. The lunati cam I am using is fine on the street as far as the power and idle but getting used to the required 3500 stall is an issue. I think a 195cc head is what you are looking for. Some told me that I should have gone with the 180cc but I have noticed zero power loss down low and it pulls like crazy up top. It also leaves room for future mods. Good luck with your choice.

I have run a stock bottom 350 with Dad's old iron bowties 2.02/1.60s (184cc runners) and an old 30/30 Duntov and posted high 12:00s in the quarter in my 4 speed 55 Chevy. I now have a more street friendly stock bottom 350 with 1.94/1.50 camel humps (157cc runners, 462 casting not ported) and a cam very similar to the 280H 230/230 .480/.480 and run just as fast. I like driving my current setup better. If your going to spend the big bucks on heads, why not AFRs? Just my two cents.

4:56's- 4:88's were the norm for these guys I guess and motors were replaced fairly regularly. With the described combo (save for the 30/30 cam which I know nothing about other than that was the lash setting). Early 350's were flat-tops and a 280 cam,headers,duals, a good tune would easily put a 3300 lb car in the low 13.s @101 so add the gear to offset the extra weight 12's aren't out of the question.

A magazine i read in said that 55's from factory weighed alittle over 3000, i know my 55 is light as hell we have the motor and tranny in the car now and i doest hardly weigh enough to go back down on our lift it takes forever to go down, but when i put my truck on the lift it comes right down and it weights 3800,
