Default timing chain

How much slack should there be in a new timing set?Just installed my new comp cams set on a basically stock small block seems to be quite a bit of slack in it.Just wondering what is the norm.Thanks

Was the block line honed?

I'm not sure.I picked the block up used.It did come out of a race car,but it was homebuilt and I wouldnt think it had been line honed.I quees that would explain the loose chain.How much will this change the cam timing?I have excess to a standard bore block do you think I should go that route before I put to much into this one.I dont want to regret using this block when I can change blocks now.Is there a fix for to much slack?
I havent fired up the camaro yet either.But its real close.I cant wait,but I have a nother project going too and not a nuff time for both.

Cloyes offers a .005 under and a .010 under timing sets, We line every block that goes through our shop and we only remove aprox. .003 and in a perfect world we only move the center to center distance .0015

The cam tunnels on the stock type are rough bored and then the cam bearings are instlalled and the cam tunnel is line bored with the cam bearings in place.

We had a block a few months ago the the center to center was off .014 and we had to line bore it back to blue print.

At our shop we are set up to blue print bore the cam tunnels for oversize cam bearings and roller bearings.

So I can just pick up a shorter chain.That sounds great.Thanks for the advice.
