BBC 454 Oil Level

BBC 454 Oil Level
I have a dip stick with pecker tracks on it form somebody elses welder, humm How do I know how full it really is? I know the oil pan must be NOS since it only holds 5 quarts , ??? is there a 5 quart BBC 454 out there? Mine is a 1975 oiut of a chevelle.
Any help anyone?

If you think they changed the one u have, buy a stock replacment.
Cheap insurance to not starve anything, since we all know you will NOT be taking slow steady launches, stops & turns.

Thanks Mr Dragster but Not sure anything else would fit , i suppose I forgot to tell you it is now in a 1984 chevy 1 ton used to tow the trailer around. If I put in 6 qts it drips out the pan gasket so that means the oil level is too high I am sure the crank sticks down into the pan at least an 1" , I am going to research some more.

The 8 quart pan in my one ton is 11" x 8" x 8.5" deep.
These are the sump measurements.

Am I coorect that the crank should absolutely NOT dip into the oil in the pan, thus the entire idea of a windage tray right? so I would assume that the oil level needs to be below the lowest point of the crank, Can anyone tell me how far below the oil pan rail on the block does the crank hang down?
