Motor Swap?

Motor Swap? So I bought a 97 Camaro SS, a few weeks ago it threw a rod. NOw the mechanic that did the rebuild is saying the car is out of warranty. Lets assume for the sake of this post that I will have to incur the cost of fixing this motor. Assuming some pretty decent damage to the block, cylinder wall scaring and such, and what I would pay for labor and another rebuild I am starting to consider replacing the motor alltogether with some sort of GM crate motor or anything else that will bolt right in to my camaro.
My Question is, what exactly is involved with doing a motor swap? I think I'll need a new computer and fuel delivery and ignition systems, bye bye opitspark, and other things, but I'm wondering if it will be outrageously expensive to drop something else in.
See, I'm considering this because I figure with parts and labor to rebuild the LT1 plus ugrades (forged rods and pistons, heads, cam, intake manifold) to get me to the 400+ at the crank should run me about the same as purchasing a new built motor alltogether. I just have never done a swap and I'm not sure exactly what's involved. Any help is appreciated.

as far as a physical fit for an old school 350..there not much to it......First off you will need a different K-member. I have one that is made for the sway from BMR. Second, you will need to notch or cut out the back cowl by the windshield wiper motor, so the dist. will clear it.....You can use LT1 Headers on it. I have ALOT of pictires of my swap..so if your interested...let me know
