305 question
Well this isnt a camaro or firebird question but it does pertain to a 305 out of a F-body. Its a 1987 305. I have found what I believe are parts that will work on a 305. I think the kit is for a 350, but the catalog says it is compatable for a 305. My question, If I am not mistaken, the only difference between a 305 and a 350 i s the bore diameter 3.500 to 4.00 respectivly. By and large will 350 stuff work on a 305? I know radical stuff will not, but trick Flow has a kit with heads, cam, springs etc that appears to be made for a 350 but SAYS its 305 compatable.

if you can afford the kit, i'd say you could afford a 350. but if you already have an assembled 305 shortblock you just have to use, go for it. the 350 and 305 even have the same cranks. expect for your peak torque and HP to be about 700rpm+ higher as compared to a 350 though.

well, its strictly for the convienence that I am not changing engine. The engine is in a 33 Ford that my father built and since I was not there to see how he actually fit this thing in there, I am hesitant on making a big move like that. Although just thinking as I am typing, I will have to at least remove the front end or engine it self just to get the cam in and out.

if the 305 is in there, it would be no problem to swap the engine in and out, or even switch to a 350. you will be able to almost disassemble the whole front end of a '33 in about an hour or less. the SBC is a pretty common swap for these old roadsters and coupes. and with as light as they are, you will get plenty of bang out of that ole 305. i would pull the motor, freshen up the bottom end, and add you head/cam package and go. it sounds like you have a pretty cool hotrod there. any pix?

Everything will bolt right up. Valve shrouding will be a problem and the compression ratios willl get funky it you change heads though. I would just stick with cam and intake swaps if I were you and goo to a 350 if you want new heads.

What is in the kit? Here's some reading on the 305, you can make it pretty stout.
