Default ?? about GM crate engine

hey guys my engine played out on me in my truck so i am looking for a new one to buy. and i dont have much money but i would like to get at least 300 hp. i saw the GM Goodwrench 350 long block and i was wondering if i changed the cam and heads if it would void the warranty or not. so please let me know thanks.

GM's got a new HT 383 bolt in TBI motor that makes 340 or so hp and 400+ lb ft of torque thats a legal replacement for TBI trucks... id go for that. and if youre going to change the heads, might as well get the short block and go from there.

What's your budget?...."not much money" doesn't tell us much. I agree with the above if you can afford it, that ht383 can be a monster with a bigger cam & vortec heads.

I've had only one experience with GM crate engines. My brother put that 383 crate motor in his truck and it spun a bearing taking out two rods, the crank, and a main cap. I was there, it was installed/broken in following GM reccomendations and only had 1500 miles on it when it went. GM would NOT warranty it because it was not installed by an authorized mechanic.
I will NEVER buy a GM crate motor!
He did rebuild it and put in a good cam, mild head porting, and intake. It was nasty!

They seem like good deals for what you get, but I would Nail down GM in writing as far as who must install the engine for them to honor their warranty. But if it breaks and they give you a free engine they still won't pay to pull it and put the new one in.
Personally, I'll never buy one.
Find a good local machine shop/engine builder and have him rebuild the engine you have with some upgrades.

thats what im going to do, have a local machine shop machine the crank and install new rods and pistons, and mill the heads and install some 2.02/1.60 heads and then ill put my own aftermarket intake and longtube headers on it. i mite even save up and have them port and polish the heads and then buy a bigger throttle body. and that will prolly be all ill do to it. i already have a crane cam in the engine.
