SBC ideas.... Well after digging into the 350 that is in my car it looks like I lost and oil ring in the #8 cyclinder and the cyclinder wall is jacked. So... what do I do now?
I just want to build a stong SBC for as cheap as I can. I have a set of like new Edelbrok Performer RPM heads I am going to use, and was planning on an Elgin cam with the exact same specs as Edelbrocks. I was thinking of reusing the GM pink rods w/ ARP rod bolts that I have in the current engine. I want forged pistons but am unsure of the right compression ratio that would maximize the power those heads can make? I am also going to reuse the 625CFM Demon Carb that is on the car.... so any ideas?

Solid or hydraulic Cam?
Brand of pistons? ( I was thinking Speed Pro)

its going to be in my 78 Regal, TH-350, 3200 stall, 3:90's and its 3400lbs.

Well, if it will go .30 or .40 then put some BS pistons in it with your heads and a cam that will get the most out of them for your requested driving style, street or strip, aggressive, whatever.
Keith Black also offer's a nice budget forged piston as well, www.kb-silvolite.com . I would use a 2 valve relief flat top piston and have the motor "decked" so that your piston is flush with the cylinder head mounting surface on the block. Your compression ratio will vary with the combution chamber size on your heads & the head gasket's that you plan on useing (remember to use a gasket that is designed for aluminum heads). After you get those important item's info gathered up, go back onto Keith Black's web site and use their compression ratio calculater to get your final number's.
