Default Building a grenade! Pics added 09/24

Or am I? Basically through stupidity and boredom I'm building myself a grenade for my '71 Camaro, although not my original intention.

The engine's based on a 350 4 bolt block .060 over with a Scat 3.75" crank, 5140 rods, KB dish pistons (9.6:1 w/ 64cc), AFR 195's, hydraulic roller valve train (Crower 00403) and EFI. That's 388 cid for those who don't like math. The late night stupidity on E-Bay is where the grenade part comes in. Just messing around, I placed a bid on one of those Chinese twin turbo kits and won! Well I've got the parts and so far they're nicer than I expected. Basically, I'm gonna use it as is and see how long it lasts. I'm going to try to post up pics of the project and find out just how crappy (or not) those Chinese parts are. I'll keep you all posted. It's gonna be a month or two before I get started though.

FLAME ON!

The only thing I hear that is really bad about those ebay kits is the turbos themselves. They usually have not been balanced properly and are made of crappy materials that sometimes come apart.

fast01:

I am pretty much doing the same thing for my 72 Z28. I am building a 383 using a Scat 3.75 crank ($189), Scat 6" I beam forged rods ($179), and a 350 4 bolt block I already have. I havent baught the pistons yet. Did you get Forged pistons or Hyper. pistons?

The only real difference in our builds is I am using Brodix Track 1 heads and doing a blow through Carb setup. I baught a set of the SBC Ebay Turbo headers. I am gonna use a S400 Turbo and the JGS BOV and WG I already have. I figureit will keep me entertained until the 498 BBC goes together.

I'll post pics of the parts as soon as I find my card reader. I just bought a house and haven't unpacked everything yet. Gimme a few days.

I've heard the same things about the turbos. I guess we'll see! All I can say (and I'm no expert) is that I haven't found any of the obvious problems described by people or anything that I've seen from one particular post I found somewhere with pictures of a unit dissassembled. As far as balance and material quality....who knows?

Our builds do sound strangely similar. I used hypereutectics. This was never intended for forced induction or spray. I guess I'll be waiting to see what fails first, the turbos or the rotating assembly. Hey, if I get a season out of it I'll be happy for the price of admission!

Keep the tune dialed in or those Hypercraps will pop quickly. They are very brittle and will come apart with the slightest hint of detonation. I found out the hard way and it was not even a FI motor.

Thanks for the input on the pistons! The engine was never intended to be blown, but I'm an idiot who decided to place a ridiculous bid on some E-Bay crap and now I'm stuck with it! Might as well have some fun with it then!

I just took some pics of the kit to post, but I keep getting an upload error telling me that the files are too large. How the heck do I shrink them so I can post them?

Well I am having to pull out of the turbo build for a little while to focus on customer builds. I am just gonna drop in a mild 355 with my Brodix heads and drive the car a while. It will be boosted later on down the road.
