Best thing yo but is your camshaft. You will be going flat tappet on a budget, be sure to run the right oil with hight zinc/sulfer content.

I'm with everyone else. Buy a 350 engine (shortblock/longblock/whatever), take it .030 over, rebuild kit from Northern Auto Parts (you can select to upgrade different components), flattop pistons (forged are nice if you ever plan on throwing nitrous on it), a cam in the 22X duration range with as much lift as you can find, vortec heads (they'll probably need to be modified for a higher lift cam), edelbrock intake, quadrajet carb (Holley's are good and all, but I prefer Qjets for a vehicle that will street driven). You'll have yourself an easy 350hp (at least) if you do it right that'll have a good amount of torque to get that heavy G-body a decent hole shot (providing you stick the power to the ground).

Couple of things you need to keep in mind:
#1: Make sure your tranny is up to snuff for the upgraded power.
#2: Invest in a good stall.
#3: If you plan on any track time or even hard street driving you'll wanna upgrade that 7.5" 10 bolt.
#4: ET Streets will help you hook up the output of your new powerplant.
#5: Have fun, do you research and be safe out there.

Big Bang and 305 don't even belong in the same sentence, take everyones advice here and build a 350,the swap is the same as far as mounting goes, depends on how radical this motor is going to be,you might have to ditch the 2004R trans and 7.5inch 10 bolt rear.My build has a 13.2 compression stroker in it and believe me everything in the car had to go.Go to MonteCarloSS.com and a lot of your questions will get answered, you can lurk in there without joining.

I have built a few 305's when i could afford much and beat plenty of 350 cars. All i did is a 3angle valve job to heads, comp cam 270/470,edelbrock rpm intake,600 holley double pumper carb, new timing chain, oil pump.Bottom end was fine so i left it alone. If your motor is'nt smoking from bad rings or losing power i would just do everything i said w/ rearend out of a monte SS.You can get 400hp out of a 305 without changing the pistons. If you blow it up all that stuff will fit on the 350 when you can afford it!

You might have beat stock 350s and really mild ones, but i hate them, i will keep the crank out of one but that is it, even roller equipment too but i will never use one for anything, thats just me.

Here's the first thing I'd buy:

Here's the Amazon.com link:

http://www.amazon.com/Build-Smallblo...747610&sr=11-1

New and Used available from $2.25!

I used this book to build my 383, and it's been putting out over 500rwhp for over 2 years now.

Im not trying to highjack the thread, but i have a question about a 305 that i think will also help the op.

I also have a 305 and im wanting to stick with it for a daily driver since it has only a couple hundered miles on it. If i buy full exhaust/intake to give the 305 a little boost, when i get the 350 cant i just transfer all the parts. The blocks are the same, just different bore/stroke right?

So, to the op a good idea for mods for your 305 is headers, TD's, full intake, build the tranny, and suspension. If you havent broke your budget, or want more power buy the and replace the 305 since all the aftermarket parts you bought will fit on the 350 also, you wont have to buy more.

My advice is Long tube headers, and put two borla xr-1's at the end of them and dump it. Then get your intake done.

BOOT to the 305.
lets say you got a 92 camaro z28 with 350 TPI and you put LT4 hot cam with Volvo penta vortec intake and vortec heads with 1.6 rockers,LT hooker and quadra jet carb along with the shift kit and 3.73 and 2500 stall,LCAs and panhard bar is this a good set up? whats the horse power range will be with this set up?

go with the 350 parts sooo much cheaper and easy to find you will get more power out of the 350 you can stroke it or just run lots of fuel and a big cam as long as you got the heads
