350 timing chain cover ?

350 timing chain cover ?

I have a 96 van with a vortec 350 (roller) the short block is bad.

I have a short block out of a 95 truck (non-roller) that I want to put in the van.

Question is I need to use the plastic timing chain cover from the vortec on the non-roller motor because it has a sensor in it.

I noticed that the vortec has a cam retainer plate holding in the cam and the regular 350 doesn't have one will the cam move enough to hit the cover.

Will this work?

Other than that everything looks the same.

Flat tappet cam are gound with a taper in them-it keeps the lifters roatating and pushes the cam towards the back of the block-it will not come forward.

So I can slap the plastic cover on and everthing will work fine.

Use the old timing set from the 95 and do not use the cam retainer, it won't fit.

I guess you're keeping the computer controls?
You can't use the vortec cam gear on a non roller cam, but you need to use the reluctor wheel on the crank. Might cause some alignment problems.
