Default replacing my quadrajet

My quadrajet is causing me all kinds of problems, so i got an edelbrock 600 to put on it...so what do i do with all the electrical connections that plug into the quadrajet?

And also im pretty sure this is bs cuz my dad is a dick and just says whatever will make you feel hopeless, but the question is will this edelbrock work on this car? he says it wont because it will screw the computer up? I didnt this it had a computer? but like i said my dad is an *** so tell me will it be ok or not?

If it is a electronic carb you will need to change the distributor also, but it should run better with an aftermarket piece as long as it is tuned right...

I have an '86 monte ss that origional came with the quadrajunk and a computer controller distributor. I replaced these with a Holley Street Avenger carb and an MSD ProBillet distributor with vac and mech advance. I highly suggest the MSD distributor. VERY robust! Stay FAR away from accel's HEI or any of their mechanical advance distributors - they are waaaay to fragile and won't last more than a year or so - trust me!

The wires are a non-CCC quadrajet (non computer controlled) are typically the A/C fast-idle solenoid (or whatever it's called) on the driver's side, and the electric choke on the passenger side. On CCC controlled quadrajets there are the same wires as noted above, but with the addition of a mixture control solenoid connection (front-pass side of carb, on top) and throttle position connection (front-driver's side - vertical white connector with three wires inside). I'm not sure if the timing control algorithms in the stock ECU factor in the throttle position, but if they do then yes you will screw up how the engine runs unless you switch out the distributor for an old-school style vac/mech advance distributor.

To be honest my reccomendation would be to swap out the carb system for a TPI (~$200 on Ebay), build (or buy) yourself a Megasquirt fuel injection system (can be had for around $600), toss an in-tank Walbro 255lph fuel pump, some steel braided line to the front - and now you have a system that is infinitely adjustable, can control traction, nitrous, and timing - and you can make adjustments to the fuel mixtures with a laptop in the passenger seat while still driving!
