Default Overheating

I was cruising around on lunch today and I my temp ran up to 235. I think this is a little hot for city driving. I just flushed the radiator a few weeks ago. On an LS1 are there any tell tales for water pump failure? I know on older 350's you can just grab the fan and wiggle it, but that's not an option here. Maybe a thermostat gone bad? I dunno, any help would be great.

When the car is cold, crank it up with the radiator cap off. When the temp bumps the thermostat open you should see the coolant flowing inside the radiator.

Once the coolant gets really hot it'll just try to overflow out of the opening, so do it on a cold start-up...

I'd pop in a 160* stat anyway. (Might as well let the coolant flow around at a lower temp) If it's still having issues then you know it wasn't the 'stat.

I talked to a few guys at the shop and that is just the way it is out here during the summer. I was 235 all the way to Phoenix Friday afternoon. I'm going to throw in the 160 stat anyways. That should help some.

Program your fans to come on earlier or get a fan switch and it will stay cooler.

That's the low speed fan, the high speed one comes on at 235. So if the max temp you are getting is 235, then the high speed fan is maintaining that temperature. If you reprogram both the fans to come on earlier, it will run cooler.
