Unhappy O my gosh

Ok so I was taking my cousin for a ride just a little while ago. I turn out of my neighborhood and give it a little gas and I hit about 35 and just then I hydroplain spin completely around and end up half way in a ditch. It has been about 20 degrees for a few weeks and I dont know whether I hit a patch of ice or what. I have done that a few times before but I have been abel to get out of it, but this time I lost it. I stopped about a foot from going completely in the ditch. I was so lucky the was not any cars coming or I would have been in some serious trouble. Sorry for the rant but it scared the **** out of me and I needed to tell somebody... anybody

That sucks real bad but at least your alright. Thats happened to me once... just a crazy rush it gives you when you actually feel like you have LOST control completely.

But if you make it out and the car's fine too, it's alllllll good.

I bet you crept off real slow the rest of the way huh?

these cars really arent meant for the winter. Even with the traction control they still suck. I at least feel alittle more in control with my 6 speed, but I could imagine an auto in that ****

Oh Yeah! I'm glad you, your passenger and your car made it unhurt besides a learning experience. I learned how to drive in an old 2nd gen 78 Z28. It loved to swap ends even in the dry weather. I did a 270 in the middle of a busy intersection one day...time stood still that afternoon for a few people. The damn old car only had maybe 140hp on a good day. That was 22 years ago, and I've learned these cars can be quite tricky handling cars to drive in even mild weather.
I've driven an F-body in one form or another ever since...I still have my close calls to this day...get overconfident in my driving...then BAM! A couple years ago, my back tires hydroplaned, of all things! and I swaped ends, continued backwards at a high rate, thru a yard, fence, over a culvert (wheee!) then really hurt my Firehawk's rear quarters and back hatch shattered. I was able to drive off and repair my car. I and my car were real lucky.

Thumbs up

Yeah, it'll be alright. Just learn from this experience. If you drive everyday in all weather, keep good tires on it. At about half tread, think about replacing the tires. I have 2 sets of wheels and tires, one to drive on and one set to race on.
On a side note...think about attending a local autocross event...man I learned alot about my car's handling characteristics. Been doing SCCA Solo2 since 1999 and love it better than drag racing.
