Default S-10 issue

Hey guys, my 1996 S-10 (2.2L 4 cyl, 5 speed, 186,000 miles) just started acting up the other day on the way to work. Under low rpm foot to the floor acceleration, the engine stutters and sounds like it's missing. Once above a certain rpm, it runs fine. I am going to chance the plugs/wires, and change the fuel filter. Any other suggestions? This truck gets driven twice a week 160 mile round trip.

Thanks.

The plugs, wires, and fuel filter are your best bet. I'm highly betting on a c ombo of you fuel filter AND fuel pump though.

ya, 186k on the truck, things are probably going to start going bad. Only thing I have replaced has been a head gasket and the water pump. Maybe I can get in one of those Chevy 200k mile commercials!

Thanks for the info.

No problem. My very good friend has an S10 with 220k miles. He had the same symptoms as you and the next week his fuel pump went out. This was just recent too when he had about 200k on his. Very dependable and low maintenance trucks!

you might check your catalytic convertor also. Bump it with your hand see if any rattling in there. Just replaced one on 87 dodge pickup and it was my culprit with your same symptoms.
