Default 2000 SS Package Question

I've searched until my fingers hurt but I cannot find the answer I'm seeking..

I bought a 2000 ss with chrome plated wheels:

The SLP sticker only shows a high performance exhaust and floor mats as on the car. So my question is.....Are these wheels standard on the SS or have they been installed by one of the two previous owners?

Silver 10 spokes were standard on the SS from 2000-2002. Chrome 10 spokes were optional in 2001 and 2002; however, I do not believe they were offered for 2000.

I just found a site that states they were available from SLP on the 2000s. However, if they were ordered on this car, wouldn't they show up on the SLP content tag on the passenger door?

Chrome wheels were available in 2000; however, those were the 5 spoke ZR1's.

And yes, if your car came with those wheels it should say so on the door tag. You best bet would be to verify through SLP.

I also have a LPM 2000 SS 'vert, and I have no sticker in the door.

I contacted SLP directly to get the build number and verify it was an SS before I purchased it. I was also told it came with "base options". I DO have the same chrome SS wheels though.

Hello Kevin,

Yes, that vehicle was modified by SLP Engineering. He SLP build number is 1414. The SLP factory installed options include: Base Alterations.

Looks like the "SS" grille was added at some point, too.

My understanding was the SS came from St Therese with a SS-specific exhaust and sway bars (not the same as a Z-28). SLP added the hood, spoiler, badging, wheels, rear bump stops, and grille as "base". Upgrades from there would be suspension, floor mats, SLP exhaust, key fobs, plaques, whatever else.

And, if it helps - my vehicle was manufactured on 9/28/1999

The painted "SS" grille was a Y2Y option.

Something else I just noticed. My car had red bowties silkscreened into the center caps, not black "SS" emblems. In the pic I posted, I put black vinyl bowties over the original red as they were severely faded and could barely be seen.

The silver SS 10 spokes had red bowties on the center caps from the factory. The chrome Y2Y 10 spokes had black "SS" on the caps.

Not "bars", just bar. Front should be a 32mm bar for base SS (30mm on Z28). The rear should be the same 19mm as a base V8 model. This is how it was for WS6 as well.

As mentioned above, the grille was not part of the base package. A base SS would have come with the same grille as a V6/Z28.

Ah, OK - good call, didn't catch that.

Hmmmm, interesting. So, I wonder what else was added to my vehicle then. My SS grille was repainted matte/satin black when I got it (I assume the gloss was chipped up, so it was repainted). I have the chrome 10 spokes with the red bowtie center caps and chrome lug covers. Lid was stock, had the orange decarbons and the black bumpstops with aluminum spacer in the rear. Floor mats were missing when I bought it, no other "SS" identifying features on the inside.

From the sound of it, some previous owner (or the dealer) swapped the grille out and potentially the wheels then.

I did find this is the listed wheel RPO option on my build sheet (pulled from CompNine): N73 - WHEEL,CUSTOM SPORT MAGNESIUM WHL(N73)
WHEEL,CUSTOM SPORT PAINTED AL WHL(N73)

Here's a stupid question - since I had "base" alterations, does that explain why I have no SLP option tag in the door? There's absolutely no tag.

All Z28/SS had the orange deCarbons.

N73 is likely the base SS 10 spoke (I'm not certain, however. It may actually be the base Z28 16" snowflake).

It doesn't matter if it was base SS or not, there would have been a SLP alteration sticker. A second sticker would have been placed if it had Y2Y options. With that said, the SLP stickers faded very easily, so a previous owner might have simply removed it.
