2001 trans am convertable or is it a 2002 running the vin it comes up a 2002. the sticker on the door frame says 05/01 mfd by gm in canada. nhra special edition ls1 6 speed manuel. any info is apreciated.
If the VIN# on the door decal matches the VIN# on the dash, then it is legit. It is not unheard of that GM extended a MY production early, the 2001s and 2002 were essentially identical. About the only thing that changed was the availability of the CETAs. But without a doubt, the VIN# dictates the model year for legal / licensing / insurance purposes.

Thanks I only had a blurry photo at the time. Since then the VIN and door numbers ma Thanks I had a poor photo of the door sticker. Since then I have purchased the car. It's definitely a 2001 convertible nhra special edition. Been after this jewel for 12 years. Unbelievable condition .

Elsewhere on this board, there's a related discussion about this subject. In that thread, a fellow has a 2002 car, with a sticker stating production date of May 2001. It has been confirmed that GM started production of the 2002 model year unusually early (in May 2001, instead of the usual August) as the F-body would be ending production in model year 2002. Sounds to me like you have a very early build 2002 car.
Similarly, the 1990 F-body production run was unusually short, and 1991 production started very early, as GM wanted to get the 1991 notably restyled cars into showrooms early. So there is a precedent for your 2002 car being built in May of the previous year.
