Default Thinking of cam

I purchased my first f bod last month. '00 SS M6 with 55k. I want to start the mods asap and found two different cams. A T Rex from ThunderRacing or a Magic Stick from Texas-Speed.com . Any suggestions? I'll be running stock heads and bolting on some flowtech headers at time of cam install.

are you driving this on the street or strip or both. what do you want out of your car. there are tons of cams out there, but are for different purposes. If you haven't paid for your flowtech's don't, they are a piece of junk, the flanges are too thin and warp easiely which means exhaust leak. you may want to look at the futral cams- they are a sponsor on the right. t-rex is one of the biggest cams out there right now for stock cubes, you may have to flycut your heads to make them fit. when you put a big cam in you will need to change the valvetrain as well.

You are beginning a path that has been covered countless times over.

The t-rex shoulldn't be used right now, not in your case. Untill you get gears, fulll exhaust, prefferably heads at the same time, the t-rex is too much on a basically stock f-body. Those things need to be redlined around 7,000 rpm!! You'll need to drop the oil pan and at the very least replace the factory rod bolts with ARP's to handle the rpm. Are you ready to get that hardcore?

I'd go with something in the high 220's to the mid 230's and get a pulley, some gears, tbody and set some money aside for a new clutch and I think you'll be happier.

It's gonna be a daily driver about 10-15 miles a day. Some people tell me the cams are too aggressive for my app. but others tell me I'll be roasting the tires. I don't know anything about cams so whatever the best choice for one pretty much stock would be, please give me some suggestions.

go with tsp 231/237 112 lsa, upgrade valve train.EI. pushrods, lifters, springs, retainers and tune. u will be fine with m6, but think about 410 gears to bring powerband quicker and clutch down the road. check ls1-ls6 internal forum.

If you go with headers, go with Pace-setters. They are affordable and sound good too. I put on a set with a lid, and they woke my car up real quick!! I love the way it sounds and how much quicker it revs.
TSP Magic Stick is a big cam that you can run on stock heads.....Do some more research, or call and talk ot some of our sponsors for cams and advice.....
