Default Comp T/A Value

I am currently in the process of purchasing a 1997 Comp T/A with just under 19,000 miles. T-tops, 6 speed, mint condition, never seen rain or snow. Lowered, Z06 wheels, custom (I think?) exhaust. The exhaust consists of all real wide tubing and runs into a resonator, no muffler. Then comes out only the left side in 2 tips. I recall seeing something about 2 tips on the left from SLP but I figured there would've been a muffler involved. It has a short throw which I'm unsure if it is the Hurst or not. I'm going to try to get the original owner's number and ask him what has been done. Supposedly dynoed at 315rwhp but I haven't seen the sheet.
All of that rambling aside, I was curious if anyone here could give me an estimate of what they believed the car to be worth. I know there were only 25 t-tops, M6, 1997's.
The kid payed $8,000 for it in April, and has put on TEN MILES since. Not even tagged or insured. Asking $10k though I have a good feeling if I lay down 90 $100 bills in his face, he'll take it ;-)
Thanks.

Sounds like a steal!

It sounds like the car has an SLP loudmouth, with the Two on the left exhaust tips. The Hurst shifter was optional.

Assuming the car was never involved in an accident. The mileage is legit, And the mods were done correctly. I would say it is worth about 14-15,000

Check out www.firehawk.org for more info on SLP Pontiac F-bodies.

If you return that car to totally stock condition and I mean all stock not showing a trace of being modded. Clean it up so it looks showroom, and if the mileage is legit and no accident history, you could turn it for $14-16,000 if you found the right buyer. The car is easliy worth $13,000. But again I must stress it has to be BONE STOCK.

Returning it to stock condition would only require springs and wheels as far as I know. It even has the original Comp T/A tires. There could be a couple other minor things but I'm not sure of them at the moment. Where do you suggest I look for a buyer? I'd be happy to sell that off to some collector and get ahold of an LS1. I almost feel guilty buying it because I cannot afford another car for a daily driver.

Any chance you're interested? I'd love to hang on to it but I'm not in the position to baby a car like that and keep it in its nearly flawless condition. An LS1 would tickle my fancy a bit more anyhow.

Did you buy it? If not, let me. If it's condition is "proper" for a Comp T/A, I'd give him $9K no problem.

I owned Comp T/A #8 for 5 years. Sold it in 2001 with 21K miles on the clock.

Something must be wrong with that car!!! I found it a while back I live in KY was going to fly out there and drive it home, the owner sold it to that kid, he just turned sixteen. I found a bunch of old post where the original owner had nitrous and stuff on that car. Be careful! It may be a good car, but I believe it had a salvage title, or prior wreck history. He's not owned it 3 months.

Also, the original owner traded the stock wheels to his friend and they are on his Z28, you might be able to buy them. I have an original set of Comp T/A Rims but wouldn't take less than $1000 for them. Brandon. And by the way the kid painted the dash and and doorhandles silver didn't he? That was the only gomb I saw about the pics he emailed me.

Ahhh... that explains a lot. My Comp T/A was in show condition. mods were: window tint, K&N filter, smooth bellows, and Redline fluid in the tranny and diff. That's it. 21K miles and never in rain. I sold it in 2001 for $22,500 to a guy who appreciated the collector value and rareity. I had number 8, after all and it had been babied to the extreme. $9K is either a steal or... as it turns out... a car with issues.

I've chased comp ta's all over the country trying to buy one since high school. I found this one it was listed on chirpthird.com classifieds. I immediatly jumped, salvage or not for the miles it was worth the $8000 he was asking. To be honest it really looks ok, but you can't tell anything from pics. The wheels look stupid but I have an original set. I had the plane ticket and cash ready and the owner told me the local buyer(the sixteen year old) came through with the funds. He gave me the kids number and told me to see if he wanted to sell it in a couple of months because he couldnt' even drive a standard. I then found the postings where the original owner had had nitrous on it and tore the rear end out of it! Glad It didn't work out for me. I mean the car is still worth the money to a collector, but I don't think I'd want to depend on it running forever. But the car has a rebuilt title and it's not a cherry like he describes (ie. no rain or snow). So it definatly has issues. Brandon.

Also the thing about the comp ta's there are no parts available, they don't make the original comp ta tires anymore (that's what the car was built for) you can't find a set of new or used center caps. No hood decals left in the world, no floormats, Anyone who's going to restore one later on won't be able to find the stuff needed. I've been asked $2500 for a set of wheels. They are beautiful cars and someday I'll own one, but it will be a mint one, that won't need repainted. Brandon.
