Real SS?

What identifys an OEM SS? Is it among the option codes in the door and/or VIN? And how do you identify the number of the SS? Thanks.

The vin contains no info, in relation to being an SS. All SS's in the eyes of GM and the insurance co's are Z28's.

To be an SS, there should be a "SLP" decal in the drivers side door stating tha tthe car was modified. If there is extra content, such as wheels, exhaust, mats, etc, there should be a decal in the passengerside door jamb.
